What is therapy?

Therapy is a collaborative process that offers a safe space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours with a counsellor. Together, we'll work on building self-awareness, developing coping skills, and taking steps toward your personal goals. At E.A.S.E. Into Therapy, I provide a compassionate and supportive environment to help you navigate life's ups and downs and embrace your authentic self.

How can therapy help me?

Therapy can support you in various ways, including:

  • Improving communication and relationship skills

  • Managing stress, anxiety, and depression

  • Healing from past trauma or grief

  • Building self-esteem and self-compassion

  • Navigating life transitions and personal growth

  • Developing healthy coping mechanisms

Therapy empowers you to live a more fulfilling and authentic life by working through challenges and building lasting resilience.

What will we discuss in therapy?

We'll discuss whatever matters most to you—your relationships, past experiences, current struggles, and personal goals. My approach is rooted in empathy and understanding, and we'll work together at your pace in a safe, non-judgmental space.

How long does therapy take?

The length of therapy depends on your individual needs and goals. Some clients benefit from short-term work, while others engage in longer-term therapy. Together, we'll create a plan that works for you and adjust it as needed.

How can I tell if a therapist is a good match for me?

Finding the right therapist is essential. A good match feels safe, understanding, and comfortable. During our initial consultation, you'll have the opportunity to see if my approach resonates with you and if you feel comfortable working with me. Trust your intuition, and don't hesitate to ask questions. If needed, I've written a blog post on finding the right therapist here: Finding Your Right Therapist: It's Okay to Keep Looking.

Will I feel results? How will I know if therapy is working?

You may begin to notice subtle shifts or significant changes, such as reduced stress, improved relationships, or a stronger sense of self. We'll check in regularly to assess your progress and ensure that we're on the right track for your healing journey.

How quickly can I expect to feel better?

Healing takes time, and everyone's journey is different. Some clients experience relief quickly, while others may need more time. Be patient with yourself, and trust that the process will unfold at the right pace for you.

Does what we talk about in therapy remain confidential?

Yes, confidentiality is a top priority in our work together. What we discuss stays between us, with a few exceptions: if you are at risk of harm, if there is a risk of harm to a child or vulnerable person, or if your records are subpoenaed. I follow the ethical guidelines of ACCT to ensure your privacy and safety.

Can I decide to see a different therapist?

Absolutely. Your comfort and trust are crucial, and working with someone you feel safe with is important. If at any point you feel another therapist would be a better fit, I fully support you in exploring that option.

What if I don't want to talk about something?

You are always in control of what you share in therapy. You'll never be pressured to discuss anything you're not ready to talk about. We'll move at your pace and respect your boundaries.

Will you think I'm "crazy"?

Not at all. I recognize that seeking help takes courage, and everyone faces challenges. I offer a non-judgmental, supportive space where you can express yourself openly and authentically.

Will you get tired of hearing me talk about the same things over and over again?

No. Repetition is often part of the healing process. We'll work together to uncover patterns and develop new approaches to challenges. Healing is not linear, and I'm here to support you every step of the way.

Will there be any written record of what I say? What happens to that record?

I keep confidential, brief notes on our sessions to track your progress and inform our work. These notes are stored securely and are only accessible to me, unless legally required.

Do you offer in-person sessions?

Currently, I offer virtual therapy sessions throughout British Columbia and beyond. This allows for greater flexibility and accessibility while ensuring that you receive the support you need, no matter where you are.

What types of relationships do you work with?

I work with individuals and couples from all relationship structures, including 2SLGBTQ+ relationships, polyamorous relationships, and non-traditional relationships. Your relationship is valid, and I'm here to support you and your unique needs.

What is trauma-informed therapy?

Trauma-informed therapy acknowledges the impact of trauma on an individual's life and focuses on creating a safe, empowering environment for healing. We work at your pace, respecting your control, and fostering healing by prioritizing safety and compassion.

Do you work with people who have substance use issues?

Yes, I offer trauma-informed, harm-reduction approaches for individuals facing challenges with substance use. Together, we'll explore the underlying causes and work toward positive changes with empathy and support.

I am part of the 2SLGBTQ+ community. Will I feel safe?

Yes! I am proudly a member of the 2SLGBTQ+ community and am committed to providing culturally sensitive, affirming therapy that honors your identity and experiences. Our work together will always be rooted in respect, understanding, and empowerment.

What are your fees, and do you offer sliding-scale options?

My standard fees are $110 for a 60-minute individual session and $140 for a 90-minute couples session. I believe therapy should be accessible to all, so I offer sliding-scale options for those facing financial hardship. We'll discuss your individual situation during the consultation to ensure that we find a fee that works for you.

What technology is needed for online sessions?

I use the secure Jane platform for online sessions, which provides encrypted video chat for privacy and ease. You'll need a device with a camera and microphone, such as a computer, tablet, or smartphone, and a reliable internet connection. Jane recommends Google Chrome as an internet browser for the sessions. Once your appointment is booked, I'll send you a link to join the session.

How do I schedule an appointment?
